Strategi Guru dalam Mengajar Berbicara di Kelas Sebelas SMA Negeri 1 Tabukan Selatan
“This research is entitled “Teacher Strategies in Teaching Speaking at the Eleventh Grade of SMA Negeri 1 Tabukan Selatan”. The objective of this research is to identify and classify the strategies English teacher use in teaching speaking to the eleventh grade of SMA Negeri 1 Tabukan Selatan. It is also to analyze and describe how students respond to the teacher strategies in teaching speaking. This research use descriptive qualitative method. The researcher collected the data by using classroom observation and interview. The sample was the English teacher at SMA Negeri 1 Tabukan Selatan and 12 students from eleventh grade majoring in language at SMA Negeri 1 Tabukan Selatan. This research used theory from Kayi (2006) to identify and classify the teacher strategies in teaching speaking. The collected data were analyzed using three activities from Miles and Huberman (1984), that is: data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing/verification. The result showed that English teacher at SMA Negeri 1 Tabukan Selatan used drilling, communication games, role-play and discussion as the teaching speaking startegies. Eleventh grade students majoring in language at SMA Tabukan Selatan showed a positive response to the strategies used by English teachers in teaching speaking. Students always paid attention, were active and excited when learning to speak.
