ABSTRACT
This research aims to determine the causes and characteristics of the alter ego and how the alter ego is represented in the character of Norman Osborn in the SpiderMan (2002) movie. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. In analyzing this research, the writer uses Alter ego Theory from Todd Herman and Psychoanalysis Theory from Sigmund Freud. The results of this research are Alter ego
is another personality within a person who has different traits, characters and behaviors from the main personality. This personality is also an ideal figure for the main personality. A common cause of an alter ego is that a person has a certain purpose in life and the characteristics of the alter ego are changing behavior and emotions and the main personality can communicate and exchange ideas with the alter ego. Norman Osborn’s alter ego, the Green Goblin, was created because of the performance enhancers experiment he did in the Oscorp laboratory. Norman Osborn has good nature and character, cares and has great sympathy and his personality structure tends to moral principles or Superego while his alter ego Green Goblin has aggressive, wild and insane nature and character and his personality structure tends to the pleasure principle or Id and principle of reality or ego.
