Persepsi Mahasiswa terhadap Penggunaan Lagu Bahasa Inggris untuk Meningkatkan Kemampuan Mendengar
This research is entitled “Student’s Perceptions on the Use of English Songs to Improve Listening Skills”. The objective of the research is to identify the ways English students use songs to improve their listening skills. It is also to analyze and describe students’ perceptions on the use of English songs to improve their listening skills. This research used the descriptive qualitative method. The data were collected using open-ended interviews. The sample was 16 students from batch 2018 of English Department of Faculty of Humanities. The collected data were analyzed focusing on the university students’ perception on the use of English songs to improve listening skills. The results show that the participants had several ways to improve their listening skills using English songs: by listening, writing, reading, and singing songs lyrics. In this matter, they perceive themselves as accustomed to listening to English words and becoming more familiar with English words so that their listening skills improved. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that the students have positive perceptions on the use of English songs to improve their listening skills and that listening to English songs is considered to be useful for the students English Department, Sam Ratulangi University.
