ABSTRACTS
The research is entitled “Associative Meaning of the Book of Proverbs (A semantic analysis)”. The problems of this research focus on the five types and functions of associative meaning and their descriptions in the Book of Proverbs. The aims of the research are to identify, classify, and analyze the verses in the Book of Proverbs using a semantics approach. This research uses a descriptive method supported by Leech’s theory. The approach of research is synchronic through identifying, classifying, analyzing, and describing the data. After collecting data, the writer focused on analyzing the words, phrases, or sentences in every verse from chapters 1-31. The result of this research showed that there are five kinds of associative meanings in the Book of Proverbs. The type is always present in all verses of the book. It is proved by the number of kinds of meanings that were identified in the verses: there are conceptual meaning, connotative meaning, social meaning, affective meaning, reflected meaning, and collocative meaning. The existence of this research is expected.
ABSTRAK
Penelitian ini diberi judul “Makna Asosiatif Kitab Amsal (Analisis Semantik)”. Permasalahan penelitian ini terfokus pada lima jenis dan fungsi makna asosiatif serta uraiannya dalam Kitab Amsal. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi, mengklasifikasikan, dan menganalisis ayat-ayat dalam Kitab Amsal dengan menggunakan pendekatan semantik. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif yang didukung oleh teori Leech. Pendekatan penelitian bersifat sinkronis melalui identifikasi, klasifikasi, analisis, dan deskripsi data. Setelah mengumpulkan data, penulis fokus menganalisis kata, frasa, atau kalimat di setiap ayat dari pasal 1-31. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat lima macam makna asosiatif dalam Kitab Amsal. Tipe tersebut selalu ada di semua ayat kitab. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan banyaknya macam makna yang teridentifikasi dalam ayat-ayat tersebut, yaitu makna konseptual, makna konotatif, makna sosial, makna afektif, makna refleksi, dan makna kolokatif. Adanya penelitian ini sangat diharapkan.
