ELIZABETH BENNET SEBAGAI TOKOH YANG BERTENTANGAN DENGAN STEREOTIP GENDER DALAM FILM PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES (2016)

ABSTRACT

This research is entitled “Elizabeth Bennet as a Character against Gender Stereotype as Seen in the Film Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (2016)”. This research is written to fulfill the requirement of accomplishing a bachelor’s degree at Faculty of Humanities Sam Ratulangi University. This research aims at identifying the gender stereotypes against Elizabeth Bennet, also at analyzing and describing the depiction of Elizabeth Bennet as a character against gender stereotypes in film Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (2016). This research uses qualitative descriptive method because it deals with data sequence of words and pictures rather than numbers. Theory of characterization and theory of gender stereotypes as well as intrinsic and extrinsic approaches used to analyze the data. This research found 13 gender stereotypes. Those are: good tempter, marries for advantage, good at housework, fearful, need security/dependent, weak, gentle, neat, not confident, irrational, not allowed to reject men, not adventurous. Moreover, this research found 13 depictions of Elizabeth Bennet as a character against gender stereotypes. Those are: not neat, confident, rational, rejects men, adventurous,competitive, fearless, provide security/independent, rough and aggressive, strong, not good at housework, not a good tempter and marries for love.
