METAFORA DALAM ALBUM LAGU NEW JERSEY KARYA BON JOVI

ABSTRACT

Metaphor is one of the figurative language that take two different things by identifying one with another. By using metaphor, it helps speakers or writer to give a clear description through comparison or contrast. This research aims at finding the types of metaphor and their meanings in Bon Jovi’s 12 songs in Album New Jersey. The method that is used in this research is descriptive method. The writer used Lakoff and
Johnson theory (2003) about the types of metaphors. In collecting data, the writer focus on identifying the words or sentences. After classifying data the result shows that the lyrics of the songs in Album New Jersey can be categorized into structural metaphor, orientational metaphor and ontologies metaphor. The parts of sentences classified as metaphors are analyzed to find out the meanings of metaphor based on Lakoff and
Johnson (2003) theory about target and source. Target refers to the underlying idea or principal subject of metaphor while source convey the underlying; the borrowed idea, or the thing that has been resembled. The meanings of metaphors from the songs refer to happiness, sadness, broken heart, family life, friendship and happiness.
