Reduplikasi dalam Bahasa Inggris dan Bahasa Siau (Suatu Analisis Kontrastif)
“This research is entitled Reduplication in English and Siau Language (A Contrastive Analysis)”. The objectives of this research are to identify and classify the forms of reduplication in English and Siau Language, and to find out the similarities and differences in both languages. The data of reduplication in English were collected from
the text books, articles, and journals that have been researched previously, while in Siau
Language were collected from informants. In this research, the writer uses descriptive
qualitative method. The data about reduplication in English and Siau Language that have
been collected then identified, classified, and analyzed by using the theory of Mattiello
(2013:148). Then, the data of both languages were contrasted by using the theory of
James (in Ebeling dan Ebeling 2013:17). The result of this research shows that the forms
of redupliction in English are full reduplication, partial reduplication, abault
reduplication, rhyming reduplication and rhyming compound, whereas forms of
reduplication in Siau Language are full reduplication and partial reduplication. English
and Siau language has similarities form of reduplication namely full reduplication and
in English and Siau language, full reduplication generally applies to the basic forms of
nouns and adjectives. The differences form in English has four pattern repetition process
of full reduplication namely pattern unmotivated in baby talk, pattern of an existing word,
pattern of a shortened word, and pattern of extra syllable in a slight variant, whereas
Siau language has one pattern of full reduplication is pattern of an existing word. There
are several sub-forms of partial reduplication in English such as ablaut reduplicative is
repetition of the same basic component (a morpheme) with vowel aphophony, rhyming
reduplicative is repetition of the same basic component (a morpheme or pseudomorpheme) with consonant gemination and rhyming compound is repetition between rhyming reduplicatives and canonical compounds, whereas in Siau Language partial
reduplication is reduplication of only a part of a word.”
