ABSTRACT
This research is entitled “The Use of Spelling Bee Game to Improve Students’ Vocabulary at SMP Advent 2 Sario Manado”. The statement of problem in this research are how is the spelling bee game implemented to improve students’ vocabulary? And what extent c an the use of spelling bee game improve students’ vocabulary? The purposes of this research are to describe description the use of spelling bee game to improve students’ vocabulary and calculate students’ improvement in vocabulary. The researcher used the theory of Thornbury (2000) on the types of vocabulary and theory of spelling bee from Fisher (2011). The researcher used a quantitative method with a quasiexperimental design and the object of the research is the seventh grade students in SMP Advent 2 Sar io Manado. The instrument in this research was a vocabulary test in the form of multiple choice and complete the sentences used in the pretest and posttest. The result of this research shows the mean score of the students in the experimental class was 70,66 categorized as good and that in the controlled class was 58,66 categorized as fair. The researcher used t test and it shows the significant difference between the experimental class and controlled class. The experimental class shows the ttest value wa that in the controlled class was 4,67.
